Acrylic Sheet
(Also known as Perspex, PLEXIGLAS® or Plexiglass )
Acrylic sheets are known by many common names in the market, such as Plexiglas® or Perspex, but these are just brand names which are often used in place of the actual product name, acrylic. This is kind of like referring to your car as a Toyota or Ford.
Acrylic is a widely used plastic sheet which is available in many colours, tints and sizes and is well known for its key properties, such as:
- Better clarity than glass
- Stronger than glass (approximately 10 x stronger than standard glass)
- Light weight, at only 3kg per square metre (at 3mm thickness)
- UV stable, making it great for outdoor applications
- Easy to handle, cut and install
- Doesn’t break into small, dangerous pieces when broken
- Low cost compared to other plastics
- Available in custom sizes as well as a range of standard sheet sizes
- Comes in a wide variety of thicknesses
- Available locally in sheets, rods and hollow tubes
Acrylic, or Perspex, is used in countless products and applications due to these impressive properties, but here are some common uses:
- General DIY
- Signs
- Sneeze guards/sneeze screens
- Pool fences
- Display boxes
- Furniture protection
- Privacy screens
- Windows (especially for double glazing)
- Skylights
- Shopfitting and displays
- Office fit outs
- Set building and stages for shows, TV and movie sets
- Shelves
- Picture framing
